The History of Coffee and How to Make the Perfect Cup

Did you know that coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world, behind only oil? And that Americans alone consume 400 million cups of coffee per day? In this short post, we'll explore the history of this popular drink and how it came to be such a staple in our daily lives.

Coffee first began to be cultivated in Ethiopia in the 9th century. From there, it spread to Arabia and then to Europe and the Americas. The earliest reference to coffee in European literature is from 1615, when an Englishical scholar wrote about "that bitter and horrible liquor." But by the mid-17th century, coffeehouses were already becoming popular in England, France, Germany, and Holland.

It was around this time that coffee began to develop something of a reputation as a drink for intellectuals. In 17th and 18th century Europe, coffeehouses became known as "penny universities" because for the price of a cup of coffee, one could purchase a ticket to listen to lectures and engage in lively debates on politics, religion, and philosophy.

Drinking coffee is a morning

Drinking coffee is a morning ritual for millions of people around the world. But how much do you really know about your daily cup of Joe? In this blog post, we'll take a look at the history of coffee and some tips on how to make the perfect cup. So grab a cup of coffee, get comfortable, and let's learn something new!

The first recorded mention of coffee was in the 9th century, when an Arabic scholar noted its stimulating effects. By the 15th century, coffee had made its way to Europe, where it quickly became popular. In 1652, the first coffeehouse opened in England, and by 1730 there were more than 3,000 coffeehouses in London alone!

Making the perfect cup of coffee is both an art and a science. Firstly, it's important to start with fresh, cold water. Bring your water to a boil, then let it sit for 30 seconds before pouring it over your grounds. This will help ensure that your water is at the optimal temperature for brewing. Next, it's important to use freshly roasted beans - we recommend our Medium Roast Blend for a well-rounded cup of coffee.

Once you've selected your beans and measured out the correct amount according to your personal taste, it's time to grind them. A coarse grind is best for drip coffeemakers, while a finer grind is better for espresso machines. If you're using a French press, you'll want to go for a medium-coarse grind. Once your beans are ground, add them to your coffeemaker and add water until it reaches the "full" line. Then simply hit brew and enjoy!

We hope you enjoyed this short history lesson on coffee and picked up some tips on how to make the perfect cup at home. Whether you like your coffee black or with milk and sugar, we hope you'll take some time to appreciate all that goes into your morning cup of Joe!
